Colt BB Air GunsHome > Pistols > Colt1911 Elite ( AAC-578 )
No two competition guns are the same, but the AirSoft version embodies most of the popular modifications to the 1911-A1 Commander short pistol. The familiar lines of the Model 1911 can be seen in the slide and in the lower frame, but certain mechanical and ergonomically add-ons have been incorporated. Mounted at the muzzle is a counter-weight that is used to help control "muzzle rise" associated with recoil and rapid shooting. This front assembly also acts as housing for the both the extended barrel and tuned return spring. By using the shorter slide of the Commander model, adding the counter-weight up front will give a decent overall length of gun without making it too large and cumbersome. A second yet significant modification Y & P has added is an ergonomic grip that is truly comfortable and supportive of either a single left-handed, right-handed, or two-handed grip. Sights and safety levers play an important role in speed shooting so a set of special pseudo-adjustable sights are in place atop of the slide while left & right safety levers are formed on the frame. Other design cues that Y & P has accurately copied from real race guns are the rounded spur hammer for easier thumb-cocking, stylized diagonal slide serration to better grip the slide while charging. Enlarged ejection port to clear brass, and a slide spine that runs down the center of the slide to aid quick realignment of the sights and target. Last but not least, the magazine literally "drops" out of the magazine well for much faster reloading just like the real guns.
With all these modifications, the basic 1911 model morphs into an interesting and unique pistol unlike any other in police, military, or security service. Modifications like these are very costly but with AirSoft Y & P Competitor, it’s more personal preference than pricey.
This spring air powered replica shoots 6mm BB pellets and has excellent range. It is available in black .

Under Y & P manufacture, the Commander is available in AirSoft form. The gun is slightly wider than the real dimensions of the Commander in order to accommodate the AirSoft mechanisms. It is however still shorter than the Government model and is equally detailed as the real model with some custom additives. The barrel and slide have been shortened, and the hammer at the rear of the short slide has been replaced with a round spur as on the original gun. But the grip size has been kept in order to house the original 7 rounds of .45 caliber cartridges or 15 rounds of AirSoft BB’s in this case. Even though the grip safety on this AirSoft gun is non-functional, this does make the gun more comfortable since it is all one solid molded piece. At the base of the grip, Y & P have added a custom magazine insertion guide. Used mostly for speed-competitive autos, this guide quickens the inserting of the magazine into the gun. Luckily for the ease at which the magazine literally drops out of this AirSoft gun, a quick magazine change is possible. Another custom job would be the left-right safety levers, the left lever being a true operating safety lever and the other is a molded detail. The grip panels are also a custom design around the mounting screws where the real gun uses the standard wooden grips. The trigger pull is very short and owes to better timing and accuracy of the shot being made from the low-powered AirSoft gun.
All in all, this is a decent adaptation of the .45 Commander compact. Although a little alteration in dimension and more of a personalized gun than one of military issue, the basic handling qualities of a short 1911-based automatic are retained in this AirSoft piece. It is available in black and silver
